Dr. Michael Cloninger

 

Dr. Michael Cloninger earned his Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University in Social Science and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Cloninger obtained a Post-Master Credential in Educational Leadership from the University of West Alabama. Most recently, Dr. Cloninger graduated with his Doctorate in Educational Leadership (PhD). Dr. Cloninger’s dissertation research focused on The Correlation between Income and Academic Achievement on Standardized Assessments for Secondary Students in the High-Performing School. Prior to becoming an administrator with the Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School, Dr. Cloninger taught Civics, World History, and Geography in the Jefferson County School System. He also served as JCIB's first Middle Years Programme Coordinator from the candidacy phase through its successful authorization as an IB MYP World School.

Dr. Cloninger is passionate about teaching and learning and works diligently to ensure that both teachers and students are prepared to perform at the highest level. As the assistant principal, Dr. Cloninger works closely with teachers to ensure that they are aware of and implementing proven and emerging best practices. Dr. Cloninger believes that the fundamental role of every school leader is to bridge the gap between school and home. Dr. Cloninger looks forward to developing positive relationships with all stakeholders that directly and positively impact each student's educational experience. 

Outside of his role as the assistant principal, Dr. Cloninger enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. They enjoy outside adventures, vintage video game nights, thrift stores, DIYing, exploring new cities, and mostly anything else as long as they are together.
