    As the second largest school district in Alabama and under the leadership of our Superintendent, Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, we serve and educate over 36,000 students from Pre-K to 12th grade in 57 schools located throughout Jefferson County. The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ Central Office Building is located in beautiful and majestic Birmingham, Alabama. We employ approximately 4,500 teachers, administrators, and support staff and offer many opportunities for school professionals to initiate or continue their career in public education within our district.

    Our district is comprised of 13 feeder patterns including 57 schools located throughout Jefferson County, Alabama:

    • 30 elementary schools
    • 11 middle schools
    • 13 high schools
    • 1 international baccalaureate school (2 campuses)
    • 1 special needs school
    • 1 alternative school
    • 1 virtual academy
    • and many new capital projects
